June FAS Managers’ Town Hall Highlights

The theme for the June FAS Managers’ Town Hall (June 4th FAS Managers' Town Hall) concentrated on the People of FAS and included the following updates which impact staff:

  • FAS Values: Senior Vice Chancellor John Plotts reminded the group of the common principles we must continue to embrace to be successful:
  1. Enterprise‐Wide Focus – A relentless focus on doing what is right for UCSF, not necessarily our individual departments
  2. Talent and Leadership Development – Engage each other to:
    • Understand personal goals and aspirations
    • Align goals with development opportunities
    • Develop people while advancing the organization
  3. Collaboration & Teamwork – When we come together as a team, we can accomplish remarkable things
  4. Service Excellence at a Competitive Cost – This is not either/or, but both. Every FAS department is meeting the challenge to reevaluate their service delivery and continually improve service from the customers’ point‐of–view
  5. Innovation – We need to challenge ourselves to be creative in solving problems and be open to new ideas

New On‐Boarding Process

Starting the week of June 22nd, new FAS staff will take part in a pilot to test our new Paperless Onboarding process. The new process will have recently hired employees complete an e‐Packet of required forms prior to attending their first day of work, which will allow more time to orient staff to UCSF and answer questions found to be most pertinent to new staff. This Paperless Onboarding pilot is part of a larger continuous process improvement project to improve our campus onboarding process for faculty and staff. Below is a breakdown of the new process for FAS:

  • Niew Hire Prep
    • Pilot: E-Packet Prep
  • Monday's @ MCB
    • Badge photo prior to Onboarding (8:30 - 9:00)
    • Orientation (9:00 - 10:00)
    • Benefits Orientation (10:00 - 11:00)
  • Thursdays @ Mission Bay
    • CLS/FAS New Employee Orientation (1:30 - 2:20)

*Note: Every 4th Thursday of the Month, compliancetraining (Ethics, HIPAA and Privacy and Security) will beoffered from 2:30‐4:00 at Mission Bay for new employees that have not completed it online.

For more information on this new process, please contact Jason Stout.

Healthy Beverage Initiative

Beginning July 1 UCSF will only sell healthy beverages in its onsite eateries, cafeterias, vending machines and through campus caterers. Through this initiative UCSF is helping to promote and model a healthy environment. Sugar‐sweetened beverages are the leading source of added sugar in the American diet and are strongly associated with negative health effects. Water, sparkling water, 100% fruit juice, diet soda, diet iced tea, low fat milk and skim‐milk, unsweetened tea and coffee will continue to be sold.

This is not a ban! UCSF Employees are allowed to bring any sugar‐sweetened beverage onto campus, but the sale of them at all vendors within UCSF will no longer continue. This initiative is the first in the nation that includes both the campus and the medical center. To learn more about this, please visit: http://healthybeverages.ucsf.edu

Step It Up Challenge

Take the No Sugar Challenge beginning June 22 and ending July 17. This is open to ALL UCSF Staff & Faculty. Prizes include $500 for individual participation and up to $2,000 for a team. For more information and to sign up, please visit: stepitup.ucsf.edu
