March 2017 FAS Strategic Priority Update

Date:
March 24, 2017

Dear Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) Community,

Please find updates below on the following topics:

Highlights from March FAS Managers’ Town Hall

The March 20th Managers’ Town Hall highlighted the following topics (follow link to see presentations):

  • Dr. Joe DeRisi, Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at UCSF; Co‐President of Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, was our guest speaker (no slides). He shared with us fascinating stories and case studies of genomic testing to identify, cure and prevent infectious disease encountered at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. If you have the opportunity to hear Dr. DeRisi speak, you will leave with a great sense of pride in the work UCSF is doing in collaboration with other great Bay Area institutions to advance healing and discovery.
  • FAS Strategic Planning Update: Senior Vice Chancellor, Paul Jenny provided an update on the process being used to refresh FAS goals. He shared the emerging “True North” which represents our shared goals and supports the FAS mission: To build, support and sustain the workplace to advance UCSF’s mission. Everyone in FAS has a line of sight to impact our True North. See emerging FAS True North below with details and next steps provided in the town hall presentation.

  • Parnassus Renewal: Interim Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, Robert Stickney described a study underway to develop a concept for long‐term renovation and modernization to transform the Parnassus campus. The initial report is expected in May 2017.
  • New Facilities Management Program: Facilities Services, Executive Director Jon Giacomi presented information on the launch of an exciting new Facilities Management Program. As part of the program, Facilities Managers will serve as building liaisons to provide occupants with a single point of contact for all of the building’s needs. The Facilities Managers will also serve as strategic partners in support of UCSF research, overall customer needs, and breaking down service barriers.
    • It is anticipating that our new Facilities Managers will be asked questions about services related to other FAS areas. Training is being developed to help them properly address and refer issues to the right place to provide a more seamless FAS handoff. If you have an idea you would like to contribute to this training, please send an email to [email protected] no later than April 7, 2017.
    • Innovative First Impression Contest: Facilities Services successfully introduced the first annual First Impression Contest to solicit improvement and beautification ideas from faculty, staff, students and other UCSF community members. Forty‐eight ideas for small projects were sent with positive feedback from grateful customers.

Thank You for Taking the 2017 Engagement Survey!

Thank you for participating in the 2017 Staff Engagement Survey. FAS had an impressive participation rate of 76%. Our survey participation was in line with the rest of campus (76% participation) and the total UCSF enterprise including Campus, UCSF Health and Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (70% participation). Please join me in thanking our survey ambassadors who worked hard to answer questions and encourage us all to be heard. Results summarizing staff feedback are expected in May 2017. Individual responses to the survey will be kept completely confidential by the survey administer, Gallup.

UCSF Launches Web Resource for New and Expecting Parents

To help individuals better navigate the complex world of family‐leave benefits and family support services, a ”New and Expecting Parents" page has launched on the myfamily.ucsf.edu website.

A joint collaboration spearheaded by the UCSF Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) and produced by Campus Life Family Services, the site consolidates for the first time all pregnancy disability and parental leave laws and policies, dependent‐care policies, and support services available to the UCSF community (staff, faculty, students, residents, doctoral and post‐doctoral scholars).

The myfamily.ucsf.edu website provides a directory of family life services and information available at UC San Francisco and in the Bay Area. The site is a great starting point for families who are new to planning for dependent care or are new to the area.
