From Spooky to Sparkly
Do you know of any spaces on campus that are a little scary on the eyes? Facilities Services to the rescue! Their Annual First Impressions contest has transformed more than 24 campus eyesores into inviting spaces that enrich the working environment at UC San Francisco, like the fifth-floor renovations to a battered bathroom and break area at Mission Center Building (MCB).
Tell us about what inspired PMO to submit the MCB fifth-floor bathroom/break space for the Campus First Impressions contest.
It started out as a complaint about a bathroom door not shutting correctly, and the grumbling continued to build. One reason we really care about this common space is that this floor is where the Academic New Hire sessions take place. It could leave a negative impression on them about the place they just started to work. When the First Impressions contest deadline came around, we decided to enter. We wanted to put together a video entry that was just as unique and creative as the staff in PMO. It was fun, and we were thrilled when we found out we won. The money doesn't go as far as you might think but the result is a huge improvement! The bathrooms are sparkly, and we have an inviting common space for employees and visitors at MCB.
