As more employees and patients return to UCSF campuses, we are challenged with increased parking demand primarily at Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay. To better accommodate the needs of all of our constituents, and preserve parking close to our health care facilities for patients and visitors, we are making changes effective Monday, February 6. They include:
- Expanding valet service for employees at the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) Garage at Parnassus Heights which will increase employee parking by 150 spots.
- Discontinuing the daily discounted employee parking rate ($26) at two locations: Millberry Union (MU) Garage at Parnassus Heights, and Medical Center Garage and lots at Mission Bay. Daily discounted rates were introduced during COVID-19, and while we will not fully discontinue daily rates, we need to eliminate discounts from patient parking areas. The daily discounted employee rate continues to be offered at the ACC Garage and all other non-Medical Center parking locations in Mission Bay.
- Promoting conveniently located non-UCSF facilities.
We continue to encourage you to use UCSF Shuttles, public transportation, and transportation options such as biking, ride share, and carpools, which also contribute to our sustainability efforts and goal to reach carbon neutrality.
Ensuring patients and their visitors have convenient access to UCSF health care is one of our top priorities, and we greatly appreciate your understanding and support as we balance everyone’s needs for our limited parking.
We are working to identify and expand commute options. We anticipate the opening of the Illinois Street Garage this spring and have plans to expand patient valet, both at Mission Bay. We are also conducting a Parking and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) study for a more comprehensive review of needs and solutions. It’s also important to note that we will not increase parking rates for employees, patients or visitors in the next fiscal year.

PARNASSUS HEIGHTS
Parking demand regularly outpaces parking supply at the Parnassus Heights campus.
Effective February 6, valet service in the ACC Garge will expand from the current service on level P7 to include levels P5 and P6, which increases our employee parking supply by over 150 spaces.
With this expanded employee parking, the daily discounted employee parking rate will not be offered in the MU Garage; employees will be charged the full daily rate ($35). The discounted employee rate ($26) continues to be offered at the ACC Garage. Monthly permit holders may continue to use the MU Garage, although they are strongly encouraged to park at the ACC Garage. This change preserves spaces in the MU Garage for patients and visitors.
Daily and monthly parking can be purchased via the PayByPhone app and are eligible for the Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits program administered by Edenred.
Alternative Parking Option:
The following non-UCSF parking facility offers competitive rates and accepts the Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits program.

MISSION BAY
Although there are more parking options serving the Mission Bay campus, several lots continue to experience extremely high parking demand that regularly exceeds 90-95% capacity.
Effective February 6, the daily discounted employee parking rate will not be offered at the Medical Center Garage and lots, no matter the time of day or night. Monthly permit holders may continue to park here, although they are highly encouraged to park at alternative locations.
Additionally, employees are strongly encouraged to park at the Community Center Garage at Rutter Center (1625 Owens Street). Real-time parking availability for Mission Bay UCSF locations can be viewed at park.ucsf.edu or via the UCSF mobile app (Go section>>MB Parking Availability icon).
Alternative Parking Option:
The following non-UCSF parking facility, conveniently located across the street from the Medical Center Garage, offers competitive rates and accepts the Pre-tax Commuter Benefits Program.
