UCSF Financial and Administrative Services (FAS)
Organizational Update

November 8, 2022

Dear Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) Community,

I am writing to introduce some organizational changes within FAS.

Consistent with the IT Operating Model (ITOM), I have asked Joe Bengfort, senior vice president, associate vice chancellor and UCSF chief information officer, to oversee the review of FAS department IT and the immediate centralization of two groups. This move will allow more transparent decision-making and more efficient access to data and enterprise-wide analytics that enable scalable technology platforms.

Other benefits of the transition include:

  • Reducing security risks by having a consistent set of processes and practices.
  • Strengthening technical controls and policies to manage the IT ecosystem.
  • Leveraging a consistent set of IT tools.
  • Central IT department oversight with collaboration, mentoring and learning opportunities available to all.

I’ve asked Joe to move expediently, with the goal of completing a review of FAS IT by Spring 2023. Cindy Yoxsimer, executive director of Campus Life Services Business & Technology Solutions, and the Campus Life Services (CLS) Tech team will transition to IT, reporting to Jane Wong, vice president IT transformation. I have asked Cindy to play a central role in working with our department leaders to establish an overall governance structure within FAS that prioritizes our major IT initiatives toward greater automation and data integration. The Finance Service Center’s Information Systems team, led by Rick Fisher, will also transition to IT and will report to Cindy in her new role. Both moves are effective on November 15, 2022.

We’ll keep you updated as the work evolves. FAS is fortunate to have outstanding teams to help with the transition. Thank you to Cindy, Rick and their teams for their leadership in helping us create a more secure environment for our data assets and UCSF’s intellectual property.

Please reach out to me with any questions.
