Best Friends at Work Gina and Sas

This week we talked with work best friends Gina Curiel and Sas Ruazol, night-shift dispatchers for the UCSF Police Department. After working together for three and a half years, Gina and Sas can finish each other’s sentences.

Having best friends at work is about teamwork and trust. Sas and I are in these four walls for 12 hours together for our overnight shifts. In our line of work as dispatchers, we really rely on each other. Sas even became part of my wedding! Because of COVID, my family didn’t get to celebrate my official wedding, so we held a vow renewal ceremony. We needed someone to “officiate” the ceremony and Sas jokingly offered to help.

I was joking when I offered to “fake” officiate Gina’s wedding but then we thought, why not? We worked on the wedding script together. We spend so much time together. Things happen in our personal life. We lean on each other and take care of each other. Gina is our wellness champion. She brought in treadmills for our desks, and she gets me to walk.
