See FAS 2026 Staff Engagement Survey Results and Next Steps
I’m writing to share the overall results from our 2026 Staff Engagement Survey and the next steps for action planning.
Dear Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) Community,
I’m writing to share the overall results from our 2026 Staff Engagement Survey and the next steps for action planning.
FAS Staff Engagement Results Summary
In April and May, 2,545 FAS staff (more than 90% of our employees) participated in our annual staff engagement survey. High participation means that FAS employees continue to believe their feedback matters and are willing to share it.
Key highlights
Our story this year is one of both strength and opportunity.
- FAS engagement remains strong at 4.0. FAS continues to score above the UCSF average and above many peer organizations, reflecting the commitment and dedication of our teams.
- We see areas that need attention. While overall engagement remains strong, the survey showed declines in overall satisfaction, employees feeling their opinions count, and connection to our mission. We also have an opportunity to focus on expectations (I know what’s expected of me). These important signals should guide our work moving forward.
- Our strengths are clear: collaboration, meaningful relationships, and recognition. Staff continue to report strong collaboration, meaningful relationships with colleagues, and recognition for their contributions.
- Leadership matters, and staff want more transparency. The results reinforce the critical role managers and supervisors play in creating engaged teams through clear communication, support, recognition, and meaningful connections with staff. Employees seek more leadership transparency and input on decision-making.
- Your feedback helps drive action. Research consistently shows that engagement improves when teams discuss results together, create meaningful action plans, and follow through.
Next steps
Survey results alone don't improve engagement; action does.
- Celebrate our successes – Take time to recognize teams for participating and sharing their feedback and celebrate top and improved teams.
- Discuss results – Managers will review survey findings with their teams and have conversations to identify areas the team wants to address based on feedback.
- Create team action plan(s) – Each team will create action plans focusing on two areas for improvement and one area of strength to maintain (see action planning tools).
- Log and track progress – New this year: Teams will use Gallup Access to create action plans by September 15 and monitor action plans throughout the year.
