FAS Hidden Talents focuses on the passions of our colleagues outside of work. This week we talked with Charles Conway, assistant director of Infrastructure Programs in Facilities Services, about his love for pickleball, a paddle sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

It's fun. It's cheap. It's accessible to everyone. All of us are busy. It's so nice to get out and get fresh air.

Pickleball is a paddle game that’s a cross between tennis and ping-pong. Four courts fit in a traditional tennis court. I played college soccer and was a tournament-level ping-pong player. I like to play team sports, but it’s hard to get people together. Pickleball makes it easy because it can be played by two or four (most popular) people. It’s fun. It’s cheap – $20 for a paddle and whiffle ball. You can be any age! It’s not as physical; you don’t have to be an athlete to play. It's more of a mental sport. It’s accessible to everyone. All of us are busy. It’s so nice to get out and get fresh air.
