Tell us about your role.
I wear a lot of different hats -- project manager, training and development manager, data analyst. Nothing is ever the same. It's always a challenge, like herding cats. Managers are so busy. It isn’t easy to complete everything on time. What is due? How is my team doing on that survey or required training?
You’ve created some excellent data dashboards. Why is data visualization so important?
Managers have a lot going on in their work lives. Data dashboards make a huge difference in transparency and efficiency, helping managers track their requests and view overdue trainings in real-time. It reduces the back-and-forth of emails and helps managers spot trends much earlier, such as where follow-ups and reminders are needed.
Dashboards help them see what they need to do, without wasting all the time digging through emails and multiple systems. I'm also working on our CLS SharePoint intranet site and creating a “supervisor corner” where they can find what they need. Dashboards don’t have much value if our staff can’t find them.
I'm really excited about connecting more systems together, like combining engagement data with operations. With connected data, we can start doing predictive analysis, not just reporting on what happened. With that information, we can make more timely data-driven decisions. It will be a big leap forward.
You recently received your MBA. What motivated you to get an advanced degree?
It’s about momentum. Once you get into the mode of going back to school, it becomes a habit. It was really challenging at first, but you can be successful if you are willing to put in the work. I am not stopping with my MBA; I'm pursuing additional certificates to maintain the momentum.
