Announcement: Exciting changes in the SVCO

Dear FET and FAS Administrative Partners,

I want to update you on some exciting changes for the Senior Vice Chancellor’s Office.

After more than two years in the role, I have a better idea of what is needed from my office to support UCSF’s growth and allow me more time for strategic work and collaboration. I am grateful to my small and mighty team who have been integral to the progress we’ve made. Becky, Todd, Shauna and Kim worked seamlessly to keep the SVCO running and, along with Klint, are helping me build a new foundation for what we want to accomplish at FAS and across the enterprise.

New positions in SVCO

  • In January, we welcomed Klint Jaramillo as our inaugural Executive Director of Diversity & Inclusion. He’s concluded his listening tour and has been busy meeting with FAS departments and leaders and focusing on FY25 planning.
  • We are thrilled to announce another new position, an Administrative Officer (AO4), who will provide direct administrative, project and program support to SVCO and FAS department teammates. On Monday, April 22, Tiffany Criger will begin this new role, joining us from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) in the School of Medicine, where she served as operations coordinator and executive analyst. Read more about her at the bottom of the email.

Bittersweet retirements and celebrations

We had bittersweet retirement announcements from two critical team members, Becky Daro and Shauna Strong.

  • After more than 25 years of service, Shauna Strong will be retiring at the end of June. We have been actively recruiting a new Director of Policy and Administrative Services. I am delighted to share that Assistant Director of Operations for UCSF Real Estate Cristina Morrison has accepted the position. She begins on Monday, May 6. Thank you to the Real Estate team for partnering for a smooth transition.
  • After almost 15 years of service, Becky Daro intends to retire at the end of the year. I’ve been fortunate to leverage Becky’s talents in a myriad of ways, including helping me reshape future leadership roles in my office to meet our high-level challenges. We'll share more information as it evolves.

Read more about Cristina at the bottom, as well as more background on Becky and Shauna’s incredible UCSF careers.

Finally, we congratulate our colleague Stephanie Mackler on her appointment as Chief of Staff in Community and Government Relations.

Please share this update as appropriate with your teams. We look forward to onboarding and training our team members over the next few weeks, no small task given the complexities of our work. Reach out to me if you have any questions.

Join me in congratulating our new team and our soon-to-be retirees!

More about our colleagues

Tiffany Criger, Administrative Officer  begins Monday, April 22

Tiffany has gained broad experience in her more than seven years at UCSF. She's been our neighbor at the Pritzker building serving as Operations Coordinator & Executive Analyst for UCSF’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) in the School of Medicine. Before that, she was promoted from faculty assistant to operations supervisor for the Department of Cell & Tissue Biology (CTB) at UCSF’s School of Dentistry.

Tiffany's wealth of experience in operations coordination, executive analysis, and administrative management across two distinct departments at UCSF promises to provide invaluable support to the SVC, along with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. She enjoys being a key resource and spearheading operational improvements. She will be in the SVCO and FAS Work Hub area on the second floor of 654 Minnesota.

Cristina Morrison, incoming Director of Policy and Administrative Services  begins Monday, May 6

Cristina has been a long-term and long-time celebrated staff member at UCSF. After more than 25 years of service, she begins a new career journey as the incoming Director of Policy and Administrative Services. She currently serves as Assistant Director of Operations in UCSF Real Estate, where she led their space redesign efforts and helped achieve nearly 100% staff engagement survey participation. Before that, she worked in the UCSF School of Medicine Dean’s Office as a Change Management and Space Manager and an analyst in the Research Unit. She started her career at UCSF as an Office Manager and Community Relations Analyst at UCSF Community and Government Relations.

Cristina’s experience across the enterprise and expertise in space and change management make her an extraordinary asset to the team. She will be working diligently to transition to the SVCO. She will join Tiffany, Shauna, Becky, Kim and Klint on the second floor of 654 Minnesota. We are fortunate to have nearly two months of cross-training time for Cristina and Shauna.

Shauna Strong, current Director of Policy and Administrative Services

Shauna was in Campus Life Services for 23 years, first as the General Merchandise Manager in the University Store and then as Director Central Administration overseeing shared services. She joined the SVCO in 2021 overseeing administrative operations and controls, policy coordination and space strategy.

Shauna’s institutional knowledge and bias toward action have been critical to the SVCO and FAS. Her phenomenal space stewardship helped return 110k square feet of space back to the Chancellor, and her many contributions were recently recognized with a Chancellor Award for Exceptional University Service. After 25 years of loyal service, she will retire at the end of June, ready to turn her attention to helping care for her grandson Logan and traveling with her husband Rob.

Becky Daro, Strategy and Administration Executive Director

Becky started as Coordinator FAS Office of Strategy Management reporting to Associate Vice Chancellor Campus Life Services. She joined the SVCO in 2014 serving three SVCs and two interim SVCs, partnering with FET on strategy and administration. During this period served for 1 ½ years as an interim leader in Campus Life Services first as Associate Vice Chancellor and then Executive Director Programs and Services.

Becky’s strengths of putting ideas into action, analysis and process discipline have been critical in implementing the transformative ideas of our leaders. Becky will spend the next nine months leading the visioning and realignment of the SVCO to better meet the needs of SVC Gore.
