Leadership announcement - Shinnerl to join UC Davis in expanded role

Dear Colleagues,

Please join me in congratulating Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Life Services Clare Shinnerl on her new role as the Vice Chancellor of Finance, Operations, and Administration at the University of California, Davis. I've observed how much Clare cares about her staff and makes sure their voice is heard. She will continue her impactful leadership in this expanded role at UC Davis, and continue to be a great UC advocate.

During her time at UCSF and in partnership with her teams, campus housing inventory doubled; a home buying support program was launched for staff: campus housing lease options were extended to staff; much of UCSF’s shuttle fleet was converted to all-electric; the number of childcare slots tripled; families benefited from emergency on-site summer camps and YMCA learning centers during the pandemic; on-site carbon emissions dropped significantly despite UCSF’s square footage growth; UCSF’s deferred maintenance backlog shrank; several high-profile spaces were revitalized for the benefit of the UCSF community; sugar-sweetened beverages were removed from eatery shelves, and UCSF’s free speech policy was updated to support First Amendment rights and to safeguard the university.

Clare’s last day at UCSF will be July 1, 2022. She will join UC Davis in mid-August.

Thank you to Executive Director of Strategy and Administration Rebecca Daro for agreeing to serve in the interim role while we begin the recruitment process. Becky started her UCSF career in CLS reporting to Associate Vice Chancellor Stella Hsu, and then Angela Hawkins and for a short time with Clare before she moved to the SVC Office. Her strong rapport with the CLS team, ability to facilitate information flow and act as a thought partner will be valuable during this interim period.

We wish Clare the best and I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.
