Finance and Administration

Dear FET and Admin Partners,

After nearly 18 years of dedicated service to the University of California, it is with mixed emotions that Stephanie Metz, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategy and Business Transformation in the Program Management Office (PMO), has announced her upcoming retirement in December 2024.

Stephanie joined the PMO in late 2018 and assumed her current role as its leader in July 2019. She joined UCSF in 2017 as the Director of the FAS Finance Service Center, having spent 15 years in finance, administration, and project implementation at UC Berkeley and Arizona State University.

The PMO has a long-standing commitment to supporting Chancellor and Financial and Administrative Services (FAS) priorities and has worked on nearly 200 projects during Stephanie’s tenure, including system implementations, strategy work, change management, and implementing transformational programs to advance the missions of UCSF. Chancellor Hawgood and I are grateful to Stephanie for her leadership and to the PMO for tireless transformational work, including creating the FAS and campus Value Improvement programs, True North collaboration with the Chancellor and Cabinet, and leading the Telework and Workspace Program, establishing guidelines and helping FAS return a significant amount of space to the Chancellor.

Stephanie says she has enjoyed the people part of her work the most and will miss working with her extraordinary UCSF colleagues. After several years working in the performing arts, followed by her 23-year career in higher education, Stephanie looks forward to spending time volunteering with non-profit organizations, traveling with her husband, hanging out with family and friends, and learning to play the cello. First on her list of travel adventures will be visiting every major league ballpark in the country, starting with a Seattle Mariners game this fall.

The recruitment process for Stephanie’s position will begin in anticipation of the December transition.

Congratulations on this wonderful next journey, Stephanie!

Sincerely,

Erin
