FAS DEIA-AR facilitates education and training for all FAS staff, partnering with Learning & Organization Development for education events.

For 2023, FAS has been focused on Restorative Justice training and education in partnership with the UCSF Restorative Justice Practices office.

FAS DEIA-AR Speaker Series featuring Darrylyn Z. Swift and Samira Lopez, RN 
Thursday, June 30, 2022, 12:10-1pm, Virtual Event

Darrylyn Z. Swift, an expert in diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, will walk us through an introduction to de-escalation (a process to calm a situation before it intensifies) concepts and principles and where to find training and resources. Samira Lopez, a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse and Lead for UCSF's Code CARE Support Team, will talk about the de-escalation program in development. Watch the recording for this event

Darryln Z. Swift 
As organizations and society become more diverse, and misunderstanding, conflicts, tensions AND people’s desire to understand grows, Darrylyn’s approach to meet the psychological and emotional needs of individuals effectively moves people to reach a level where there is understanding, acceptance and value. To assist organizations in gaining a deeper understanding of culture building, DEI tools, and how to shift perspectives. She has more than 30 years of expertise in developing leadership and management strategies with a keen focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion. Through conducting assessments, developing strategic plans, providing leadership guidance and developing project plans and training, she helps leaders transform their culture by creating and sustaining an inclusive and equitable workplace where belonging and humanity thrive. Samira Lopez, RN
Samira is a board certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse currently working as the Lead for the Code CARE Support Team at UCSF (Parnassus Campus). Prior to that she was the Adult Inpatient Nurse Supervisor at Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital. She has an extensive background supporting both patients and staff implementing trauma-informed care principles in a medical settings. She developed and managed the Psychiatric Nurse Liaison program at John Muir Hospital in Concord which addressed the psychiatric needs of patients hospitalized and provided education and coaching for members of the care team.
