Leadership Updates from the Recent FAS Managers’ Town Hall

  • Around Campus - Guest speaker Talmadge King, Dean of UCSF’s School of Medicine, discussed the school's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts; current strategic plan and how they are addressing staff engagement. See the slide deck.
  • Within FAS - Senior Vice Chancellor (SVC) Paul Jenny shared FAS diversity data as a follow up from a previous inquiry about our staff diversity breakdown; a True North status update; and a behind-the-scenes peek at the FAS planning work underway to support organizational growth and exceptional services. SVC Jenny also celebrated the launch of our first FAS Executive Report and our successful FY 18 progress. See the slide deck.

Resource Management and Stewardship

  • Financial Snapshot - Good budget news! We met our budget last year with revenue and expenses better than planned, and projections are on track for this year. See the slide deck

Our People

  • FAS flash updates - We’ve been hearing that staff want more opportunities to learn about what’s happening in other FAS departments, yet also feel overwhelmed with information. We experimented with the popular three-minute “slam” presentation format – a 3-minute oral presentation with minimal slides – used by the UC graduate schools and CLS to share dissertation work or annual goal results.  The first FAS Flash Update was a great success, and we plan to use it more often in the future. Check out some of the fascinating updates (PDF) and get more details:
    • People, Progress, Parnassus campaign - In the next few weeks, a new campaign for the Parnassus community will be launching, highlighting progress and improvements being made by departments within FAS to improve the physical environment right now.
    • PeopleConnect Management Actions - Did you know the old SRS system processed 388,663 transactions? PeopleConnect Management Actions is now live.
    • Staff Engagement - The campus has been coordinating new outreach opportunities as part of this year’s Staff Engagement efforts. Mark your calendars for the January 30 Follow-up Staff Engagement Town Hall to hear more about the recent focus group feedback and UCSF’s organizational action plan. See more resources on the staff engagement page.
    • Great People, Great Place - Launched in 2016 with a goal of making UCSF a great place to work, learn, teach and discover, the Great People, Great Place initiative continues to show success, most notably through reinforcing our PRIDE values and the Recognize platform. Find out more about project milestones and resources
  • First Impression Winners - Twelve winners were chosen for the second annual First Impression Contest, out of 50 submissions. Learn more about the winning projects
  • UCSF Volunteer program - The UCSF Volunteer program has officially launched! Check out all the ways you can give back to our community.
  • UCSF Toy Drive - UCSF Police Department is coordinating a Toy Drive benefitting UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Drop off unwrapped toys at any UCSF Security Guard Station through Friday, November 30. See the Toy Drive flier to learn more or share with others.
  • Things that impact your work or life
    • Open Enrollment - Don’t forget the UC Open Enrollment deadline Tuesday, November 20.
    • Step it up Challenge  - Want to stay active and keep an attitude of gratitude? Check out the Step It Up Challenge webpage to learn more about how this annual program can help.
