Announcement: SVC Strategic Communications Advisor Barbara French

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Barbara J. French, who recently retired as Vice Chancellor Strategic Communications & University Relations, will be returning to UCSF in a part-time position to provide strategic communications counsel to my office.  Her appointment is effective August 5th. Barbara will be based at 654 Minnesota Street.

In her new capacity, Barbara will provide counsel on two key UCSF priorities: the Comprehensive Parnassus Heights Plan and the Anchor Institution Initiative. Barbara’s 14 years of service to UCSF, overseeing numerous high profile and strategic communications and advocacy projects, makes her uniquely qualified to provide ongoing guidance on these two university priorities. Barbara retired from the vice chancellor position in June.

UCSF launched the Comprehensive Parnassus Heights Plan to define a bold, long-term vision to revitalize the historic Parnassus Heights campus to sustain excellence across research, education, and patient care.  The plan to rejuvenate the Parnassus campus will be a decades-long process.  Over the coming months, UCSF will focus on preparing the Draft Environmental Impact Report that is required to implement the plan.

Earlier this year, UCSF announced its intention to leverage more of its economic power and collaborative partnerships to improve the long-term health and welfare of San Franciscans by participating in a national movement to establish “anchor institutions” – universities and hospitals that are committing to strengthen and support under-resourced communities.  Barbara is charged with assisting me in formalizing this effort at UCSF.

Please join me in welcoming Barbara back to UCSF.

Sincerely,

Paul Jenny
Senior Vice Chancellor
