Appointment of Associate Vice Chancellor - Campus Life Services

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Shinnerl as the Associate Vice Chancellor – Campus Life Services (AVC – CLS). Clare will be on campus beginning today and succeeds Angela Hawkins who recently retired from UCSF. I’d like to thank Maric Munn for her excellent work in an interim role in anticipation of Clare’s arrival today.

In her role as the AVC – CLS, Clare will oversee a full range of self-supporting campus life services, as well as facilities management and the Financial and Administrative (FAS) Service Center. The scope of responsibility is diverse and involves services to all segments of the UCSF community – faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Clare joins UCSF from the Pacific Business Group on Health where she was the Chief Operating Officer responsible for finance and budget, facilities, human resources, information technology, strategic planning and communications, and program operations. Previously, Clare was the Senior Associate Dean, Finance and Administration at Stanford University’s School of Engineering. Clare led a large staff and was responsible for the school’s administrative functions, including finance and budget, facilities, auxiliaries, health and safety, human resources, information technology, and research administration. Prior to Stanford, Clare held positions at both the USC and UCLA, including Assistant Vice President, Business Services at USC.

Clare received a Bachelor of Arts from UC San Diego, a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Redlands, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.

With more than twenty-five years of operational and financial leadership experience in both the private sector and in higher education, along with a background of accomplishments demonstrating her strong customer service commitment, Clare is highly skilled for this important role, which directly supports UCSF and its mission.

Please join me in welcoming Clare Shinnerl to UCSF. Her office will be located at 654 Minnesota Street and I’m sure you will frequently see her at all our locations.

Sincerely,

John E. Plotts
Senior Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration
