Appointment of Chief of Police

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Denson, as Chief of Police for the UCSF Police Department. In 2012, Mike joined the department and was second in command as Captain of the Field Services Division. Upon the retirement of Chief Pamela Roskowski in July 2015, he has held the interim role of Chief of Police.

Mike’s police experience has tremendous depth and breadth that includes 20 years with the Palo  Alto Police Department where he supervised and managed a variety of police functions including criminal investigations, patrol operations, personnel and training, internal affairs investigations, hostage negotiations, and the special weapons and tactics team. After his tenure with the Palo Alto Police Department, Mike became Deputy Chief of Police for the San Mateo County Transit District where he was in charge of public safety and risk management for an 88-mile rail and bus system.

Mike received a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration from CSU Long Beach and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. Also, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.

Given his extensive background and commitment to UCSF and our public safety, Mike is the ideal candidate for this important role.

Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Chief Mike Denson.

Sincerely,

Teresa Costantinidis
Interim Senior Vice Chancellor
