Community Support - George Floyd: Bearing Witness in Solidarity and Community

Dear FAS community,

It is recognized that some of us are feeling the weight of the Derek Chauvin trial as jury deliberations get under way.  Against the backdrop of several recent mass casualty shootings and two more fatal police shootings involving people of color—Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo—the trial over the killing of George Floyd may feel overwhelming.

To provide support for our community, Chaplain Susan Conrad and her team will create a daily space online via Zoom where people can spend time communing with one another.  If you would find it helpful, I encourage you to adjust your work and study schedules if possible, and log on from 12:30 p.m. – 12:55 p.m.  Here’s a brief description of the daily communal space that Chaplain Conrad will facilitate:

Tuesday, April 20, through Friday, April 23 (may be extended)

12:30 p.m. - 12:55 p.m.

George Floyd:  Bearing Witness in Solidarity and Community

All members of the UCSF Community are invited to this space to acknowledge and honor our intense feelings, as we seek justice and accountability on behalf of George Floyd, and all those whose lives have been taken due to anti-Black violence and every manifestation of racism.  We will join in a virtual time of reflection and care facilitated by UCSF Spiritual Care Services and community partners.

These are trying times, so please continue to look after yourself and one another.
