Distribution, Storage & Mail and Campus Procurement & Contracting merger

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Distribution, Storage & Mail (DSM) has been merged with Campus Procurement & Contracting (CPC) within Financial & Administrative Services.

This unification creates seamless ownership of the end-to-end supply chain, from sourcing through delivery, which will enable us to better support our research, teaching, and health care missions.

This change should not be disruptive, as Distribution, Storage & Mail and Campus Procurement and Contracting have been collaborating over the last 5 years to enhance existing and enable new supply chain opportunities. As a result  of  this collaboration  we have seen  improved customer  service, lower costs of supplies, and sustainability benefits to the UCSF community including:

  • Implementation of a new warehouse management system enabling on-line submission of service requests and customer access to storage and account activity.
  • Development of a high use supply program resulting in significant savings to the campus for basic supplies combined with faster delivery.
  • Increased centralized receiving at the Oyster Point warehouse and consolidation of the Distribution, Storage & Mail Services delivery networks resulting in significant reductions of vendor truck congestion at campus sites, faster delivery of basic supplies and decreased carbon footprint.

Additionally, the collaboration of UCSF Campus Procurement with UC Berkeley and the overall UC system (Procurement, Sourcing, and the P200 Program) creates opportunities to leverage Distribution, Storage & Mail capabilities more broadly within the Bay Area and Northern California.

If you have any questions or concerns about this merger, please contact Jim Hine, Chief Procurement Officer, [email protected].

Sincerely,

John E. Plotts
