Organizational Changes in UCSF Finance

Dear FAS colleagues,

I want to update you on recent organizational changes in UCSF Finance.

After careful consideration, I have decided to not fill the Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer (VC/CFO) position formerly held by Teresa Costantinidis, due to the overlap of this position with my role as Senior Vice Chancellor and with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Budget and Resource Management role. To accommodate this change, I am reorganizing UCSF Finance as follows effective immediately.

Mike Clune is now Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer
We have changed Mike Clune’s working title to Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer. He will continue to spend the majority of his time directly overseeing Budget and Resource Management and collaborating with me to be a strong influence in executive decisions that impact UCSF and representing UCSF at the University of California system-wide level on financial matters. In addition, he will take on oversight of the critical functions of Controller’s Office, Supply Chain Management, Risk Management and Insurance Services and the FAS Finance Service Center.  In his expanded role, Mike will be part of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

Mike joined the campus budget office at UCSF in 2011 after 11 years at the UC Office of the President. He became Associate Vice Chancellor for Budget and Resource Management in 2016. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in statistics and a PhD in demography from the University of California Berkeley.

Audit and Advisory Services to report to SVC Jenny and Chancellor Hawgood
Irene McGlynn will continue in her position as Chief Audit Officer, Audit and Advisory Services, however her dotted line reporting will change from the VC/CFO position to me.  She will continue her dual direct reporting relationship to both the Chancellor and the University’s Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Audit Officer Alexander Bustamante.

Irene McGlynn, CIA, MBA, BBA joined UCSF as Director of Internal Audit in 2014 after 15 years of audit experience primarily at Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Associate Vice Chancellor, Controller recruitment underway
Upon the retirement of John Ellis, Shannon Turner is serving as Interim Controller. The recruitment process is well underway to hire a permanent replacement. We expect a successful candidate to be announced in the new year.
These changes highlight the deep talent we have within Finance. I am thrilled that long standing, valued staff have risen to take on new challenges.

Please feel free to contact me directly with your questions.

Sincerely,
Paul Jenny
Senior Vice Chancellor
Finance and Administration
