SVC Jenny's Interim UCOP Appointment

Dear Financial & Administrative Services (FAS) Community,

I am writing you with news from the Senior Vice Chancellor’s Office.

University of California President Janet Napolitano has asked me to serve as the interim executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for the UC system while continuing my role as UCSF Senior Vice Chancellor, Finance and Administration (SVC) effective July 15.

Due to the retirement of UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland at the end of this academic year, current UC Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Nathan Brostrom will be serving as interim UC Merced chancellor. The UC Office of the President will conduct a robust search for Chancellor Leland’s successor, and Nathan will return to his post as CFO when the search and recruitment process is successfully completed.

I have agreed to take on the role of interim CFO for the UC system and am honored to serve UC in this capacity. Chancellor Hawgood has given me his full support.

The CFO function at the UC Office of the President includes asset management, systemwide operating budget, capital finance and planning, and procurement. The position aligns well with the scope of my current role and my previous experience. Before I joined UCSF in 2016, I was the senior vice president of planning and management for the University of Washington. Prior to that I oversaw budget and resource planning at UC Berkeley.

Here at UCSF, we are fortunate to have extraordinary leadership and support teams to ensure that FAS stays focused on the critical work of supporting our mission and aggressive growth. My additional duties will not detract us from the important work underway that includes navigating construction impacts of the new Chase Center at Mission Bay, furthering the revitalization of Parnassus Heights, leading transformational HR change efforts, and managing our own recruitment efforts for leadership of UCSF Human Resources and the Program Management Office.

I am proud of the work FAS does to support UCSF, and I will continue to be actively involved and available during this interim period.

Sincerely,

Paul Jenny
