Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you that Captain Michael Denson has agreed to serve as Interim Chief of Police, effective July 1, 2015, for the UCSF Police Department. His appointment will continue until the search for retired chief Pamela Roskowski’s successor is complete and a new chief has been appointed.

Mike has tremendous depth and breadth of police experience including 20 years with the Palo Alto Police Department where he supervised and managed a variety of police functions including the criminal investigations, patrol operations, personnel and training, internal affairs investigations, hostage negotiations, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) among others. Captain Denson retired from Palo Alto Police Department in December 2011 and has served as Deputy Chief with the San Mateo Transit District prior to coming to UCSF.

Mike holds a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration for California State University  Long Beach and a Bachelor’s Degree from University of San Francisco in Public Administration. He is    a 2010 graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia, and a recipient of the 1999-2000 Santa Clara County Homicide Detective of the Year.

Mike has ably served as acting chief in the past, and I am confident that his experience, leadership, ethics, and straight-forward approach will enable him to successfully provide the necessary coordination of the Police Department throughout the transition. I am grateful to Mike for taking on the interim chief role.

Sincerely,
