Dear FAS,

Reflecting on a challenging and rewarding year, I continue to be grateful to be part of this community.

The end of the fiscal year brings retirement season and new opportunities. I have been working with the Senior Vice Chancellor’s Office (SVCO) and the FAS Executive Team (FET) to consider what our office needs to support the important work happening within FAS and across the enterprise. We are trying to understand: How should the SVCO scale to better meet the growth and complexity of UCSF? How should we best align to enterprise priorities, resource management, initiative management and communications?

I want to share some organizational changes and celebrate new beginnings.

Two new positions and changes in reporting

Within the SVCO, there will be a Deputy Senior Vice Chancellor position to provide essential direction especially on initiatives spanning the enterprise. Reporting directly to me, they will be a member of the FAS Executive Team (FET).

I’ve also made some reporting line changes to support this new role. Reporting to the Deputy SVC will be:

  • SVC Office operations including team members Director of Policy and Administrative Services Cristina Morrison and Administrative Officer Tiffany Criger (read more), plus Director of Communications and Engagement Kim LaPean and Executive Assistant Todd Paulsen.
  • The Program Management Office (PMO), led by Stephanie Metz.
  • FAS Finance Service Center, led by Linda Moran, will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Deputy SVC while continuing to report directly to Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and CFO Mike Clune.

Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion Klint Jaramillo will continue to report to me as a member of the FET.

I will also be hiring an Executive Director of ERP Business Functions to support our multi-year enterprise Administrative System transformation. (ERP is a cloud-based enterprise resource planning platform). This is a critical position that will partner with IT as program owners of the ERP implementation team. The role will drive an approach to understanding business function needs and collaborate with FET leadership, campus, Health, IT, and program lead, guiding data, day-to-day design decisions, managing tradeoffs, and communicating change on a timely basis. They will also work closely with PMO colleagues on program governance and change management activities.

Planning for these changes is underway, and the Deputy SVC and Executive Director ERP Business Function positions will be posted in the coming weeks.

Celebrating leadership retirements

Later this month, we’ll continue our FAS tradition of sharing a list of this year’s retirees and award winners. We look forward to celebrating many dedicated years of service and achievements.

I want to highlight three well-earned retirements within our FAS leadership.

  • Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategy and Business Transformation in the Program Management Office (PMO) Stephanie Metz has announced her retirement for December of this year (read more). Recruiting for her successor will begin after the Deputy SVC is hired.
  • Executive Director of Strategy and Administration Becky Daro has also announced her retirement this December, and Director of Policy and Administration Shauna Strong will retire at the end of June (read more).

I’m always inspired by the team resiliency across FAS, especially in navigating constant change. Please know the SVCO is dedicated to FAS needs— a strength we’ll continue to leverage as we chart our path forward.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My in-box is always open!
